The Green-eyed Sea Witch of the Scandaran Isles by NicGiraffe The Green-eyed Sea Witch of the Scandaran Isles by NicGiraffe
She also accepts the title “Pirate Queen of the Scandaran Isles”. =D

This is a supporting cast member of Dire Wars, a pirate who lends her aid to the heroes when able to, although she doesn’t get along very well with the main character.
Even though she's the type who shamelessly generates her own hype in order to build her reputation as a great pirate up, she’s an accomplished fighter with the sword as well as her favorite ranged weapon, the boomerang. She’s also very clever and conniving, and commands a crew called the Sea Dogs.

She also doubles as a Road Rovers OFC, but wears more modern dress in that particular 'verse and actually has superpowers. Her Dire Wars incarnation doesn’t have a name yet, but in the Rover-verse she's named Facade.

She's in a boring standing around pose, but I’m really happy with how this came out. She actually looks like a sea otter (and yes, she actually does have sea green eyes). I hope her personality shines through here.

EDIT: Her Dire Wars name is Fata Morgana, guys!

I thought a smirk would fit a character with her kind of personality.

Aye, it's neat how such a simple twinge of the mouth can say so much about a character =P

Thanks. :-) And think nothing of it; I'm glad to hear you had a good one.

No problems, I had some computer issues myself recently.

Great design! I like her 'hair' and her smile, and she's gonna look totally sweet with colored green eyes. :) She also looks like she could kick my ass. Always a plus.

Thank you for the kind words! IMHO, I think an animal person like our gal here would be able to kick Les Brockner's ass (were they real). Someday I might pluck up the courage to add color to this, but if someone else asked to color it, I wouldn't object.

Oooohhh, I dig this, Nic! Pirates FTW! :D
I think her sassiness and spunk shine through here with her pose and smile. I also love the costume, especially the details like the marks on her arm and belt buckle; even the littlest things can add great touches.
I also love the fact that she has a boomerang as a weapon; that's so unique and fitting for her character! I can't wait to see what you have planned for her in both fan works and original works. :)

Thanks! Everybody loves pirates. XD I'm glad my fixation with detail has paid off. Those arm markings are supposed to be a tribal tattoo, so I looked at some different designs and then tried to create one of my own for her to sport. As for her boomerangs, I wanted her to have a weapon for melee combat situations and then another for long-range attacks. I wanted something different from the norm.

Ah, I see. The tribal tattoo is a nice touch to add onto her character. May I ask what was the inspiration for this particular tribal tattoo?

Heh heh, boomerangs aren't really, at least as far as I know anyway, a weapon that aren't really used a lot in fiction even though they're pretty handy to have for long-range attacks and for melee combat situations. I think that was a brilliant idea to deviate from the norm and choose something you don't really see in a lot of fiction. May there be more boomerangs used in more fiction!

Oh, there wasn't one in particular I'm afraid. I just borrowed aspects from several different ones and tossed it all together.

I don't think I've seen them too often before either, and certainly not nowadays. I was in-depth reading about them on Wikipedia. I knew the Aborigines used them for hunting, but I guess I have trouble seeing modern-day boomerangs as lethal.

Ah, I see. Well, either way, the final design ended up paying off well. It's really nice. :)

Hm, I think that even if boomerangs look easy to draw, it might turn out to be difficult because of the way they're designed. It's like if someone has to draw someone holding a boomerang that they get the angle right on the basis of whatever position the hand itself is in. At least, that's how I see it. But they are cool weapons all the same!

Thank you. :) I meant to say that I was reading about them in-depth. Argh.

Yeah, I'll have to try drawing her throwing a boomerang or whatever sometime and see how that turns out! They are unique though!

Oh, pft, no worries. I didn't even catch that mistake. It's all good. XD

Oooo, that would be so cool to see! I'm sure it'd turn out awesomely if you go through with it. Boomerang power, baby! :D

Oooh, lovely! XD Yes, she does look like an otter (and I like green eyes), and her whole character seemed pretty interesting. :D I like the name "Facade" for her, though.

Thanks! I'd prefer not to use the name Facade for this particular version of the character, since the RR-version is someone else's character I'm just using (and because I know you're probably wondering this, his version of Facade and mine's are pretty different from each other, so they're not really even the same character at this point).

Welcome, and oh, I see, gotcha. x) Heh-heh, I know what that's about, though: there've been plenty of times I've created OCs based off of characters I love but changed them significantly to suit my own needs. :XD: But hey, its better than changing the actual character, otherwise it'd be canon-rape. ^^

I agree with that. Sometimes there's a character you think is cool and want to have your own version of them. If the character's been changed around enough, then I don't have an issue with that. Facade's creator hasn't been around since the late 90s and may not even be doing anything with her or his other characters anymore. I also have no clue what his ultimate plan was for her, so the best I can do is just make educated guesses (as far as RR-Facade goes).

But I'm not as uptight and aggressive over people using my creations like I notice many folks are. If someone created an OC based on, say, Chiquita, I'd be flattered honestly, not angry. There's a difference between flat-out stealing a character or doing crazy stuff with them (IE: someone making Chiquita into an evil dominatrix) versus using the character while going "hey, this is so-and-so's OC. I'm just borrowing him/her." Or "this character is based on so-and-so's OC."

Yep. You summed it up pretty well. :) Heh-heh, though I wonder how I'd react if somebody based an OFC of theirs' off of Roger. I don't know if I'd be flattered or territorial. :XD: I guess it would ultimately depend on how different or similar the character is to Roger. If its really just a few similarities, or if their character is only based appearance-wise on Rog, then I suppose I wouldn't mind. :)

Thanks. That's understandable. How one feels about this particular issue is entirely up to them. Personally though, I just think a lot of folks out there should take a deep breath and calm down before they start accusing others of "stealing" OCs.

This picture is awesome! :D I'd say her personality definitely shines through here. (It does to me anyway.) I love her design and I'm already excited to see her in action. She sounds like a really fun character. And NGL I kind of love characters that are suitable for moonlighting from a fandom project to original writing.

Thanks! This is actually yet another borrowed RR OFC. *dons body armor to protect herself from the fandom cops* Seriously, I like the concept behind Facade, but in the stories written by her creator, she unfortunately suffered the same problem characters like Sally and Sonic do. She acted like, well, a bitch, especially towards one character that she basically bullied in most of the fics, and was never called on it. If it had been handled with self-awareness, it would've been a little more tolerable, but it wasn't. She was never really fleshed out all that well either if I'm being honest. Like, she could've been explored much better then what she was. So I hope I can bring that to her character. And I'm looking forward to bringing her into both verses!

You're welcome! Ohh, that's a bummer about her origins. I totally get the desire to see an idea or character out to their potential. I've been there before LOL. And why is Sonicing such a common issue with characters? I'm sure you'll be able to explore her to her full potential! I can't wait to see her pop up in stuff. :D

I think that's both of our life stories when it comes to fanfiction, lol. Cynically, I'd say that the reason behind Sonicing (lol, that's a perfect term for it) being so prevalent is because a lot of pple are are poor writers and lack self-awareness.

Thanks!
